About us

Kaboodle Design is a combination of Karen Stansfield’s learning and working experience over the past twenty years.

Karen has come from a surface pattern and fashion textile design background. Her design work is created by the means of painting, printing and drawing using mixed media, cloth and stitch. Throughout her career she has developed skills in fabric manipulation and construction for the fashion and interior industry, both commercial and domestic.

Karen diversified into theatre design in the late nineties after gaining textile commissions for Chol Theatre. In 2003 she graduated from Bretton Hall College after successfully attaining a degree with honours in ‘Scenography, Theatre Design and Technology’. Karen specialises in costume and set design but takes a holistic approach to theatre, considering all the areas, including light, sound and movement.

Over the past four years Kaboodle Design has built up a strong client base within Theatre and with Arts organisations throughout the Yorkshire region and Manchester.

In 2006 saw the collaboration with Monique Hollinshead (lecturer at Leeds University and freelance costumier) to work on Northern Ballet Theatre’s productions ‘A Sleeping Beauty Tale’ and ‘Nutcracker’. Karen also started to freelance for The West Yorkshire Playhouse as a maker on a variety of shows including ‘Flat Stanley’, ‘The Hounds of the Baskerville’, ‘Bollywood Jane’ and ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’.

Kaboodle design has reached schools, colleges and after school groups with workshops devised on the subjects of set design, costume design and construction, fashion illustration, design and construction, textiles design and print.
